Is some good news on the way for the Tennessee football team after a massive recruiting weekend for head coach Josh Heupel and Co. in Knoxville? That’s what people are hoping for, as there were plenty of top targets on campus in recent days.
The list included standout Duke running back Star Thomas, who has one extra year of eligibility thanks to the new JUCO rules. Thomas took an official visit and things couldn’t have gone better for him. So much in fact, recruiting guru Pete Nakos put in his On3 prediction for the Vols to sign him. Will he end up putting the pen to paper soon?
Tennessee appears close to landing the commitment of Duke transfer Star Thomas
Coming out of high school in 2020, Thomas went the JUCO route and he ended up playing for New Mexico State. He then signed with Duke and put up some impressive numbers this past season – he finished with more than 1,000 total yards and eight touchdowns.
He can get the job done carrying the pigskin and also catching it out of the backfield. For the Vols and head coach Josh Heupel, a Thomas addition could prove to be huge for the offense, as Dylan Sampson is on his way to the NFL and there’s a lot of youth currently in the RBs room.
Thomas would provide the Vols with some veteran experience. He’s also someone who has proven they can get the job done facing tough competition. Can you imagine Thomas making plays behind the Tennessee offensive line, a group which is loaded with potential heading into 2025? Look for Thomas to make a decision in the coming days. Don’t be surprised if he picks the Vols, as it looks like Heupel and his staff are in a prime position to sign him.
He’s gone after only 48 hours on campus? That’s what plenty of University of Washington football fans are thinking right now following Tuesday night’s breaking news. In case you missed it, standout wide receiver Johntay Cook left the UW program.
It’s being reported by multiple outlets that the Huskies and Cook decided to mutually part ways, though there’s plenty of speculation that Jedd Fisch dismissed Cook from the program. Regardless, the former 5-star prospect will be back in the portal, ready to sign with a new team.
