Social media reacts to Colts hiring Lou Anarumo as defensive coordinator
The Colts announced Anarumo as their new defensive coordinator on Tuesday.
The Colts on Tuesday announced Lou Anarumo as their new defensive coordinator, prompting plenty of conversations about what the 58-year-old, with 36 years of coaching experience, can bring to the Colts.
Anarumo is known for his versatility and ability to quickly adapt and adjust depending on his opponents, and notably led the Cincinnati Bengals in holding the Kansas City Chiefs to one field goal in the second half of the 2021 AFC Championship – a game the Bengals would go on to win to advance to the Super Bowl. Anarumo’s reputation precedes him, and he’s earned a great amount of respect from those in and around the NFL.
And the Colts’ own cornerback and team captain, Kenny Moore II, sent out a simple post on X just five minutes after ESPN’s Adam Schefter broke the news on Monday:
What Does Lou Anarumo Bring to the Indianapolis Colts?
On Monday afternoon the Indianapolis Colts signed Lou Anarumo to replace Gus Bradley as the team’s defensive coordinator.
Just a couple years ago, he was being interviewed as a potential head coach for several teams. Following the Super Bowl run, the Bengals had to cut ties with some key players in order to pay Joe Burrow, Trey Hendrickson, and free agent offensive lineman.
Indianapolis becomes his second defensive coordinator job in the NFL.

Anarumo, 58, is considered to be one of the most respected coaches in the league by players and his peers. Eli Apple called him a “mad scientist” in 2023 after Cincinnati shut down Josh Allen in the AFC Divisional Playoffs. He also has been one of the few coordinators that has had consistent success against Kansas City since Patrick Mahomes has taken over as the team’s starting quarterback.
