Derby County could reunite with James Tomkins following Crystal Palace release

Wolves consider move for player Crystal Palace released after Yerson Mosquera injury

Crystal Palace allowed a number of talented footballers to leave during the summer transfer window.

The likes of Michael Olise, Joachim Andersen, Sam Johnstone and Jordan Ayew all departed, while Odsonne Edouard was also loaned to Leicester City.

Before these exits, Crystal Palace had already waved goodbye to Jairo Riedewald, Nathan Ferguson and James Tomkins after deciding not to renew their contracts.

Now – however – the latter could be set for a swift return to the Premier League…

Wolves consider James Tomkins after Crystal Palace release

A story from HITC Football now states that Wolves are considering a move to sign either Tomkins or Paul Dummett after Yerson Mosquera suffered a serious injury.

The Colombian has started all five Premier League games so far this season, so his absence leaves a gaping hole in defence for Gary O’Neil.

As such, Tomkins is being considered due to his vast experience, having amassed 289 Premier League appearances across spells at West Ham and Crystal Palace.

The 35-year-old may be preferred by Wolves due to the fact he is right footed, like Mosquera, whereas Dummett is stronger on his left.

However, Tomkins – who said he loved his partnership with Mamadou Sakho – only managed nine Premier League starts across his last three seasons with Crystal Palace, so he may need to prove his fitness to O’Neil before a contract is offered.

Reunited with Sam Johnstone

If this surprise free transfer does end up materialising, Tomkins will reunite with Sam Johnstone at Molineux.

The pair shared a pitch on five occasions together at Crystal Palace, winning four and losing one of those outings, so they clearly struck up quite an effective relationship at the back.

Be sure to keep an eye on this situation – if an agreement does happen, Tomkins would return to Selhurst Park on May 18th, the penultimate game of the 2024/25 campaign.

Eddie Nketiah has made three appearances for Crystal Palace so far since joining, but he has just shown why the club should expect more.

This summer the marquee signing for the Eagles was Eddie Nketiah, costing £25m from Arsenal in a move which was a long time in the making.

Nketiah has since shown some real quality, but only has one goal which he scored in the Carabao Cup against QPR.

This is as the Eagles have struggled for form early this season – but Nketiah is unbeaten as a Crystal Palace player thus far, with two draws in the Premier League.

However now in a training clip, Nketiah has demonstrated his immense talent with a spectacular goal.
