New Las Vegas interim head coach Antonio Pierce: 'I was born a Raider'

Raiders Reject Massive Trade Package
The Las Vegas Raiders might be finding themselves in the “not competing for a championship” category sooner rather than later.  Las Vegas fell to 2-4 after a brutal 32-13 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.  Any more losses and the Raiders might be looking to the 2025 NFL Draft a little sooner than everyone else.

That being said, gathering as many draft picks is essential when starting over through the draft.  Trading away super star players are sometimes a necessity to get that type of capital.

With the Nov. 5 trade deadline inching closer, it’s easy to wonder if teams out of the playoff race like the Raiders would listen to offers on their best player. But according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, a blockbuster deal involving Crosby is not on the table at this time.

Speaking on “The Pat McAfee Show” today, Schefter stated that the Raiders wouldn’t even accept a trade offer for Maxx Crosby if it involved multiple first-round picks. Schefter believes there was one team that inquired about Crosby’s availability, only to be turned down:

“I believe earlier in the year, there might have been a team that asked the Raiders about Maxx Crosby and might have floated a one (first-round pick)…you start with multiple ones on that guy, and even then we wouldn’t entertain it.”

Schefter isn’t sure which team spoke to Las Vegas about Crosby’s availability. But the bottom line is that despite their disappointing 2-4 start, GM Tom Telesco seemingly prefers to continue building around the three-time Pro Bowler.

The 2024 season is quickly spiraling out of control for the Las Vegas Raiders. After the 32-13 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 6, the Raiders sit at 2-4 and in last place for their division. Any playoff hopes are pretty much long gone as many in the fanbase have begun to shift their attention to the NFL Draft.

That doesn’t leave much room for optimism when it comes to this week’s winners and losers.

LOSER: Antonio Pierce

What might be the most frustrating aspect of the Raiders’ season so far is the team continues to have the same issues week after week.

Offensively, they can’t run the ball consistently and effectively yet the coaching staff seems hellbent on continuing to establish the run. Defensively, the missed tackles continue to pile up as Pro Football Focus had the Silver and Black on the hook for 13 more misses this past Sunday.

While he certainly shares the blame, what you permit you promote as a head coach and it’s time for Pierce to step in and change the offensive philosophy and figure out the tackling issue. He’s talked about fixing both problems but it’s time to see some results.

On top of all of that, Pierce’s game management was an issue again this week as his decision not to challenge Ameer Abdullah’s potential touchdown run and instead go with a hurry-up offense is inexcusable.
