Crystal Palace, Newcastle on Alert as PSG Monitor Chelsea Transfer Target
As the summer transfer window drew to a close, Paris Saint-Germain made a last-minute effort to bolster its defense. Moreover, the capital club will continue to attempt to improve its backline heading into 2025.
In August, L’Équipe’s Loïc Tanzi reported that PSG offered Tomás Araújo a €5 million annual contract, though they needed to sell a center back first before moving ahead.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano added that Chelsea was also eyeing Araújo as a potential signing if they parted ways with a defender in the final days of the window. Although Chelsea hadn’t submitted a formal bid, they saw Araújo as a promising option.
Both clubs showed interest in the 22-year-old, but Benfica had no intention of letting him go. According to Romano, the Portuguese club ultimately chose to keep Araújo, especially after already selling multiple players over the summer.
PSG remain keen on Tomás Araújo after summer interest
Portuguese outlet Record reports that PSG are closely monitoring Araújo for a future transfer. However, the operation appears challenging, as Benfica are unwilling to negotiate for the player
The Lisbon club has set his release clause at €100 million, leaving PSG with an all-or-nothing option. This latest report comes after O Jogo reported that Chelsea, Newcastle United, and Crystal Palace are among several clubs interested in the player.

Exeter City clean sheets continue as Joe Whitworth stars again
EXETER City goalkeeper Joe Whitworth kept his ninth clean sheet of the season – and proved once again why he is so highly regarded with another excellent display in the Grecians’ stalemate with Lincoln City.
The 20-year-old, on a season-long loan from Crystal Palace, has been a star of City’s season so far with a number of outstanding displays and he was again on top form to keep the Imps at bay at St James Park.
In truth, he didn’t have a great deal to do, but when called upon – such as in the first half when he made a superb save, low to his left, to keep out Jack Moylan’s free kick – Whitworth was at his best to earn his team a point and make it an incredible nine clean sheets already in just 14 games.
“It was a tough game and they have a style of play that they stick to and they are really tough to play against,” Whitworth said. “We were at home and I thought we dominated the first half, but in the second half, we got dragged into their style of football a little bit. Overall, I think it’s a decent point and we will move on to the next two games.
“Whenever you play teams that kick the ball into good areas and have big guys that go and win headers and they play for territory, you always expect to have a lot to do, especially with crosses into the box.
