Appalachian St Clemson Football (copy)CLEMSON — It’s not hard to see Clemson’s potential in 2025 because almost everyone is back.

With the return of sixth-year tackle DeMonte Capehart, the Tigers return 15 defenders who started games last season. Plus another 14 offensively.

That includes the most important player on the field, quarterback Cade Klubnik, who has been floated as a Heisman contender, along with four out of five starters on the offensive line and a tantalizing trio of receivers.

There aren’t many holes to fill with spring practice just a month away.

But that doesn’t mean there isn’t intrigue this offseason. There are quite a few developing underclassmen on the roster who could solidify the Tigers’ weaker links in profound ways.

Here are five, in particular, who could be X-factors in 2025 if they can make significant strides in the months ahead:

Gideon Davidson, a midyear enrollee, might be talented enough to plug and play at running back. But that remains to be seen.

Jay Haynes has flashed explosiveness. But it’s unclear when the rising redshirt sophomore will be fully recovered from an ACL tear suffered in early December.
