Report: Bears have interviewed Notre Dame offensive line coach Joe Rudolph
On the January 28 edition of the Football 301 podcast, hosts Nate Tice and Matt Harmon spent a segment talking about assistant coaching hires around the NFL. They started the segment by discussing new Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Declan Doyle, who worked the last two years as the tight end coach for Sean Payton’s Denver Broncos.
They spent some time discussing the tight end coach-to-coordinator trend and the potential success they have due to their unique understanding of both the running and passing game. They mentioned how Sean Payton’s offensive system has rules that are “offensive line based,” which is passed down to his protégés. That led them to some o-line coach discussion that eventually worked back around to the Bears and their vacant offensive line coaching position.
Nate Tice said it “looks like they’re interviewing some college guys, including one I’m familiar with, Joe Rudolph, who is the offensive line coach at Notre Dame.”
Tice knows Rudoloh from his time playing quarterback for the Wisconsin Badgers, where Rudolph coached tight ends from 2008 to 2011.
The only other offensive line coach that the Bears have been linked to is Dan Roushar, another guy currently coaching in the college ranks.
“A name to keep an eye on as Bears O-line coach is Dan Roushar,” the Chicago Tribune’s Brad Biggs reported last week. “He spent 10 seasons with the Saints, where he worked with Dan Campbell. New Orleans had some top-tier O-lines. Roushar previously coached at Illinois & NIU. He’s currently at Tulane, where he’s been since 2023.”
