As the Texas Tech Red Raiders and coach Joey McGuire build for 2025 with changes to the roster and coaching staff, the team is also busy building for beyond. And one of those future building blocks could be an elite quarterback from Celina, Texas.
Tech has a history of elite passers and the immediate future of the program seems to be in good shape with Behren Morton once again set to start in 2025 while Will Hammond, Mitch Griffis, Lloyd Jones III and Holden Phillips will all be in camp. But per multiple sources, the Red Raiders received a visit from Celina, Texas, prospect Bowe Bentley.
That’s good news for Tech fans. On3 Composite Rankings has Bentley listed as a three-star recruit while 247Sports shows him as a four-star. The 6-2, 200-pound prospect already has offers from Arizona, Florida State, Kansas State, Missouri, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, UCF, Virginia Tech, Wisconsin, and others. The On3 Rankings also show Bentley to be the No. 26 QB in the country and the No. 51 recruit overall in Texas. 247Sports shows him slightly higher in their rankings as the No.
18 QB and the No.243. player overall in the country. Bentley threw for more than 3,000 yards for Celina this season en route to a perfect 16-0 record and a 4-A state championship. He added 47 touchdown passes.
Hammond is expected to be the starter in 2026 as a redshirt sophomore, but Jones could be a factor after missing most of this offseason with an injury. In the new Transfer Portal era, a program can never have too much talent at any position at one time, and McGuire seems to be stockpiling talent at quarterback.
