The 2025 college football season is still months away from beginning, but teams are already working to improve upon last season. Many of them have the goal to position themselves for a chance to make the College Football Playoff and compete for the championship after the next season. One of the teams in focus is the Alabama Crimson Tide, who just completed their worst season since 2007. In Kalen DeBoer’s first year as head coach, the Crimson Tide finished with a record of 9-4. That season marked a stark contrast to nearly two decades of dominance under legendary head coach Nick Saban. While it seems unlikely that DeBoer will be dismissed, fans are still speculating about what it would take for the team to part ways with him. During a call on “The Paul Finebaum Show,” a listener asked whether Alabama would consider firing DeBoer if the team were to lose to the Auburn Tigers in the final weekend of the upcoming season and miss the College Football Playoff. Finebaum responded that he did not believe this would be sufficient grounds for a dismissal.
“I don’t think that would be enough to get Kalen DeBoer fired,” Finebaum said. “I think it would be an indictment, but my understanding in the leadership at Alabama would be it probably would take something more than barely missing the playoff to cost him his job.”
