Beto takes off in private jet from Italy with Everton transfer to be done in next 24 hours

Udinese forward Beto has flown out of Italy on a private jet headed for England ahead of finalising a move to Everton, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.

Everton have agreed a fee in excess of £25.7m (€30million) for the Portuguese, who has already agreed personal terms with the Toffees [Fabrizio Romano].

In an update provided on his personal Twitter page on Sunday [27 August], Sky Sport reporter Di Marzio reported that Beto will now undergo a medical today.

“Beto just left Trieste on a private flight to England,” he tweeted.

“Confirmed the medical visits during the day and between today and tomorrow he will sign his contract with Everton.”

Everton could really have done with getting this deal over the line prior to their meeting with Wolves on Saturday [26 August], which ended in familiar fashion as they struggled to convert their chances and lost 1-0.

That is now three successive defeats-to-nil for Everton to begin their campaign, seeing them prop up the foot of the table at this still admittedly early stage of the campaign.

While the defence is not entirely devoid of blame – the Toffees conceded four times to Aston Villa just last week – a new striker or two is the priority in the final week of the window.

Beto has scored 21 goals across the past two Serie A seasons for Udinese and, while that is not exactly the most prolific of returns, it is better that what Sean Dyche currently has available to him – a fully-fit Dominic Calvert-Lewin aside.

The fee is also reasonable enough given Beto has reached double figures for goals in back-to-back seasons in one of Europe’s top leagues; now it is a case of getting the 25-year-old quickly integrated into the squad.

Assuming the deal is finalised by Monday as reported, there is no reason why Beto cannot start next weekend’s showdown with Sheffield United – a match that is already looking like a must-win contest for the Toffees even at this early stage.

In other Everton news, Clinton Morrison has called on the Toffees to also bring in a creative midfielder.
