Jeremiah Smith once again silences rumors he’ll leave Ohio State for Miami

Ever since the Ohio State Buckeyes won the National Championship Game, there’s been plenty of speculation that freshman phenom Jeremiah Smith could end up leaving Columbus and entering the transfer portal. Rumors started flying after it was reported he had a $4.5 million offer to do so.

Naturally, plenty of people speculated that perhaps Mario Cristobal and the Miami Hurricanes were ready to go all-in to bring him to town, as the team needs some more help for Carson Beck, who just transferred in from Georgia.

However, Smith wasted no time shooting down talk that he was going to leave Columbus. Over the weekend, he’s done so once again, replying to an Instagram comment suggesting that he was ready to accept a big-money offer. The answer remains no.

REPORT: OHIO STATE Receiver Jeremiah Smith LEAVING for $4.5 Million? Jim Knowles to Penn State!

Jeremiah Smith has no plans to leave Ohio State this offseason

Smith saying, “I’m good I promise you” was his quick and polite way of making it clear that he wants to keep suiting up for the Buckeyes. Smith is coming off an unreal freshman season for the Buckeyes, of course highlighted by winning the natty.

In the College Football Playoff, he was a joy to watch, especially with his big games against Tennessee, Oregon, and then in the title game against Notre Dame. Smith has already become one of the top wide receivers in the country and he’s going to be ready to keep things rocking in the Big Ten in 2025.

If Smith was eligible to enter the NFL Draft this year, he’d no question be a Top 5 pick. However, the 19-year-old wideout is going to have to wait a little longer to make the leap to the pros, as Ohio State fans are ready to keep enjoying him making head-turning plays. Yes, people all over Miami were dreaming of him catching balls from Beck next fall, but it’s not going to happen.

Ohio State’s victory toast turned sour in a hurry: Ted Diadiun

CLEVELAND — Ten years ago, my brother and I traveled to Dallas to watch Ohio State’s football team play Oregon for the national championship. Neither of us had ever witnessed a team we rooted for win a title of any kind, and shouting above the cheers after OSU’s 42-20 victory, Tim turned to me with a grin and said, “So this is what it feels like!”

We basked in that good feeling for many months afterward.

No such luck this year. The Buckeyes’ 34-23 win over Notre Dame 13 days ago thrilled football fans across Ohio and Buckeye Nation – but it came with a price. Not even a day passed before the thrill was gone, lost in a sour taste that made the victory difficult to savor.

Replacing it were critics, doomsayers, departures, and worries about other schools poaching Ohio State’s top players. And, most distressingly, tales of the abuse head coach Ryan Day had to endure in the wake of his team’s loss to Michigan that preceded its thrilling four-game run through the playoffs.

Shouldn’t we have had at least a few days to enjoy the team’s success before the negativity descended? Not this time … my National Championship ballcap hadn’t even arrived in the mail before my own euphoria went down the drain.

* Day’s happy celebratory comments were sadly buried under an avalanche of reports – often in the same story – about the shameful treatment many fans had heaped upon him, his wife and his children.

After the Michigan loss some Buckeye fans, if one can use the word, had acquired his wife’s cellphone number and called with death threats and disgraceful comments that are hard to believe. His 16-year-old son had to withstand cracks from other students and even teachers, along with death threats over social media. And his wife, Nina, said she was told multiple times that Day “should follow in his father’s footsteps and kill himself.”
