Everton ‘monstrous’ transfers force player out of Goodison Park as exit detailed
Halid Djankpata has made an “exceptional” leap forward since leaving Everton for Spezia, according to his agent Stefano Antonelli.
Explaining why the 19-year-old left Goodison Park in the summer, Antonelli said that his client did not have a promising pathway to the first team with the Toffees due to the “monstrous” transfer activity of Premier League clubs.
The agent is also of the view that Djankpata has become a “man” since leaving the Merseyside-based club, although he is yet to feature for Spezia‘s senior side.
“I saw the appreciation of the people who greeted him [Djankpata], but above all how he has fitted into the environment – I was positively impressed”, Antonelli told Gazzetta della Spezia (5 February).
“It’s proof that in six months he has made an exceptional leap forward.
At Everton, he played in the Under-21s, which is the second team, comparable to our Under-23s, and trained at least twice a week with the big boys
“Our desire was to complete him as a player. The investment we made that brought him to Spezia is to complete the player – to make him important and internationalise him.
“He has to learn many things that he couldn’t learn in England, such as tactics.
“Furthermore, development in the first team in England is increasingly less possible due to the monstrous transfer market frequency that leads clubs to buy everywhere.
“For now, these six months have proven us right, given that he is growing exponentially in everything.”
Halid Djankpata left Everton in summer
Djankpata was turning up for Everton Under-21s and sometimes training with the senior players at Finch Farm before he joined Spezia at the end of the summer transfer window.
While his agent is highly impressed with his development in Italy, it is worth noting that the teenager is yet to feature for the Serie B clubs’ first team.
The Togo-born midfielder has been restricted to just 331 minutes of playing time for Spezia’s Under-19s.
While it is understandable why Djankpata is not an important part of the Italian club’s first-team plans as they push to earn promotion this season, he would have surely expected to feature more often.
Of course, Antonelli is understandably waxing lyrical about the player’s development at Spezia.

After all, the agent was probably the driving force behind the transfer to Italy in the summer.
At 19 years of age, Djankpata has pretty much his whole career ahead of him and one can only hope that things work for him, although it may be away from the Merseyside-based club.
In other Everton news, new behind-the-scenes details about Carlos Alcaraz’s medical have come to light.
David Moyes backed into corner at Everton after transfer window shuts
Everton were only able to conclude one piece of business in the winter transfer window and David Moyes will undoubtedly be frustrated at the lack of movement.
Since his reappointment at Goodison Park, Moyes has masterminded somewhat of a revival, and the hopes were that January reinforcements could ramp up those efforts.
However, aside from the signing of Carlos Alcaraz, Everton had a remarkably slow transfer window and they may be forced to rue the lack of additions.
The Toffees are in a good position to steer clear of relegation, but a further injection of quality could have massively improved their chances of achieving that.
Lack of incomings at Everton was surprising
Given the position they find themselves in, many will have thought that the Toffees would have attacked the transfer window in an attempt to cement their place in the top flight next campaign.
