Tahj Brooks - Football - Texas Tech Red RaidersOne of the biggest events of the NFL offseason is the annual scouting combine held in Indianapolis, Indiana. This year, it will be held from February 27 to March 2 and four Texas Tech football alums will be there to showcase their skills.

This is an opportunity for these Red Raiders to work out in front of executives and scouts from every NFL franchise. What’s more, they will be able to meet with teams in person to start to build relationships and allow NFL decision-makers to get to know the type of person that they might be drafting.

To no one’s surprise, running back Tahj Brooks has received an invitation to the combine. After all, he was one of the most productive running backs in America over the past two seasons.

Topping the 1,500-yard rushing mark in each of his final two college seasons, he set the Texas Tech all-time career rushing record. However, this is perhaps the deepest running back class to enter the draft in decades so he will have plenty to prove in Indianapolis.Tahj Brooks - Football - Texas Tech Red Raiders

No one questions Brooks’ physicality. What’s more, he’s proven capable of breaking loads of tackles. However, at the combine, he will have to run a good 40-yard dash to show the NFL that he has the speed to be an every-down back.

We already knew that tight end Jaylin Conyers would be heading to Indianapolis because he shared that news a few weeks ago. What is interesting is that Conyers is the opposite of Brooks in that his athleticism is not in question but his productivity might be.How an NCAA change helped Tahj Brooks' Texas Tech football record chase

At 6-foot-4 and 250 pounds, the Gruver, Texas native is nimble, fast, and explosive for his size. However, in his college career, he never had a huge statistical season. In fact, he topped out at 38 catches, 422 yards, and five touchdowns in a season. Still, because of his size and athleticism, NFL teams want to see him at the combine.
