FORMER HARRODS BOSS & FULHAM FC OWNER MOHAMED AL FAYED DIES AGED 94
Mohamed Al Fayed, the former Harrods boss and Fulham FC owner, has died at the age of 94.
The family of the Egyptian-born businessman confirmed his passing in a statement last night (September 1).
“Mrs Mohamed Al Fayed, her children and grandchildren wish to confirm that her beloved husband, their father and their grandfather, Mohamed, has passed away peacefully of old age on Wednesday August 30, 2023,” the statement reads.
“He enjoyed a long and fulfilled retirement surrounded by his loved ones.”
After building a business empire in the Middle East, Mr Al Fayed moved to the UK in the 1970s.
He is best known as a former owner of the Harrods department store, which he sold to Qatar Holdings in May 2010. Three years later, he sold Fulham FC to U.S business man Shahid Khan.
Fulham F.C have taken to social media to pay tribute to Mr Al Fayed.
“We owe Mohamed a debt of gratitude for what he did for our club, and our thoughts now are with his family and friends at this sombre time,” the club said in a statement.
The news of Mr Al Fayed’s passing comes a day after the 26th anniversary of his son’s death, Dodi Fayed, who was killed in a car crash alongside Princess Diana in 1997.
