West Ham admit Jean-Clair Todibo relief as summer transfer budget clarified

West Ham have admitted major relief over defender Jean-Clair Todibo as the club’s summer transfer budget is clarified.

The feel-good factor is back at West Ham after the 1-0 win at Arsenal.

It has not only been a miserable season up to then but a dismal 14 months.

The Hammers had tasted victory just 13 times in 53 games since beating Arsenal 2-0 at the Emirates on December 28th 2023.

Tim Steidten and Julen Lopetegui paid the ultimate price for this season’s woeful form as they were sacked last month.

The pressure had been on over the way they spent £155m on West Ham’s rebuild last summer.

Steidten has been accused of setting the Hammers back years with his dealings.

While the window was far from perfect – and raised the average age of the squad to the oldest in the Premier League – many of the signings have really started to come into their own.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Max Kilman and Jean-Clair Todibo were brilliant in the win at Arsenal.

Crysencio Summerville has excited fans and will be a key player under Graham Potter when he returns from injury.

West Ham admit Todibo relief

Todibo was one of the star summer captures. But he blew hot and cold under the former manager.

Lopetegui has admitted he punished Todibo over their much-publicised bust-up.

The former Barca defender made his first start under Potter against the Gunners and was imperious.

Many felt his game and Potter’s approach would complement each other well. And that was proved correct in the famous win.

Todibo’s performance comes after incessant speculation he wanted out and could be sold by the club.

The Frenchman signed on loan with an obligation to buy which was triggered after five Premier League starts – providing West Ham stayed up.

It means West Ham must now pay Nice £32m – which comes out of this summer’s budget.

A budget which, according to reports, is already tight.

Now West Ham have admitted their Todibo relief as the summer transfer budget is clarified.

The club’s financial situation heading into the summer has been making headlines of late.

As the 17th richest club in world football in terms of income and the Premier League’s third wealthiest in terms of ownership net worth, money shouldn’t be an issue for West Ham.

But reports have suggested it will be this summer.

Profit and Sustainability Rules have become the talk of the Premier League and are restricting some of the richest clubs from spending.

Hammers News reached out to the top spokesman for West Ham’s owners about the summer budget and plans.
