Leicester fans embarrass themselves with Jamie Vardy chant at West Ham
Desperate Leicester fans dropped a clanger with a Jamie Vardy chant aimed at West Ham in the defeat which pushes them towards the Championship.
West Ham ran out comfortable 2-0 winners over Leicester City in the Premier League.
The match promised to be a difficult one for the Hammers given Leicester’s predicament.
But it turned out to be a walk in the park for West Ham against a Foxes side who look to have already accepted their relegation fate.
It was a professional and solid performance from Graham Potter’s side.
No frills West Ham got the job done as they recorded back-to-back Premier League wins for the first time in almost a year.
For a change veteran striker Jamie Vardy did not cause the Hammers any problems.
Vardy has enjoyed a superb career, going from non-league to the top of the game.
He huffed and puffed against the Irons.
But West Ham never got out of second gear and dealt with him and the Foxes with ease.
Goals from Tomas Soucek and Jarrod Bowen sealed the victory.
Such was the nature of the game, the atmosphere was dour at the London Stadium.
Leicester’s embarrassing Vardy chant at West Ham
It has been that way for some time at West Ham now.
The team has been so bad for so long, supporters are waiting to be given something to shout about.
That did not stop there being some back and forth between the two sets of supporters.
But Leicester fans dropped a clanger with a Vardy chant aimed at West Ham.
After being tackled during one move, Vardy received some stick from the Hammers faithful.
The usual stuff he gets at every ground.
Vardy is never shy in giving it back – as Spurs have often found out – much to the amusement of the likes of rivals West Ham.
The ageing striker likes to point to the Premier League badge on his shirt to remind Tottenham about beating them to the title that fairytale season.
When West Ham fans had a pop at Vardy, he didn’t respond.
But Leicester’s away following did on his behalf.
Except they chose the wrong club.
Foxes needed a Hammers history lesson after Vardy taunt
“Jamie Vardy, he’s won more than you” sang the Foxes fans.
Now of course Vardy was key to that unforgettable Premier League triumph.
He also helped Leicester win a second major trophy in the FA Cup.
But perhaps Leicester fans need a history lesson.
West Ham are by no means the most decorated club around.
The club’s anthem tells you everything you need to know about that.
Fortune hasn’t always hidden for the Hammers, though.
While Vardy has won two major trophies, West Ham have won seven.
That’s two more than Leicester have ever managed as a club.
West Ham have also won three European trophies in their history, one of only eight English clubs to have done so.
So for Leicester fans to come at West Ham with that particular Vardy chant doesn’t quite work.
The only thing Vardy has over the Hammers is that he has won the top flight title whereas the east Londoners haven’t.
Unless they “do a Leicester” one year then they probably never will either.
But Foxes fans need to know their history before they pull that particular chant out again.
When fans of Chelsea and others used to sing it about John Terry and Frank Lampard, there wasn’t much West Ham could say back – because it was true.
Leicester singing it to West Ham about Vardy just doesn’t land.
