Rodrigo Vilca has sealed a loan move away from Newcastle United, joining Serbian side FC Voždovac for the remainder of the 2023/24 season.

Newcastle are yet to announce the deal, but Voždovac’s sporting director Bojan Leontijević has confirmed that the 24-year-old has joined on a temporary basis.

Since arriving on Tyneside almost three years ago, the attacking midfielder has had spells on loan with League Two side Doncaster Rovers – where he notched two goals and two assists in 13 appearances – and spent a part of last season in Peru with Universitario de Deportes.

He’s made 24 appearances for our U21 side since he signed in 2020 and will now play in the Serbian Super Lig. The Peruvian is out of contract next summer, so is likely to leave as a free agent once he returns from Voždovac.

Here’s what sporting director Bojan Leontijević has had to say about the move, followed by comments from Vilca himself:

“We have a football player who is officially a member of the English Premier League. We established contact with Newcastle and based on that cooperation, Rodrigo will spend a year with us on loan.

“He plays on the left wing and ‘ten’ and comes to strengthen the competition in our team, given that we were in a deficit.”

Rodrigo Vilca on his loan move to FC Voždovac:

“I had meetings with the president and the coach who ‘made’ me want to come to Voždovac. It is a wonderful club in a beautiful city, with many young players who want to make serious careers.

“I have already gained some experience, I have gone through good and bad moments and now I want to contribute to the team to achieve the best possible results.

“Dedication, effort and hard work is something that I have always provided and that can be expected from me even now.”
