What are the Nets getting in two-way signee Kendall Brown?

Former Pacers wing Kendall Brown lands new NBA contract

After spending parts of two seasons with the team from 2022 to 2024, the Indiana Pacers waived Kendall Brown just before the start of the season. Brown appeared in 21 total games for the Pacers and spent most of his time in the G League. Following his Pacers departure, Brown joined the Long Island Nets, the Brooklyn Nets’ G League affiliate.

Brown has looked solid in Long Island in his first season away from Indiana. So much so that, over halfway through the season, he received a new NBA contract and could have his shot at a revenge game against the Pacers at some point down the line.

The Brooklyn Nets signed Kendall Brown to a two-way contract

According to HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto, the Nets have signed Brown to a two-way contract. Prior to this move, the Nets had just one available two-way roster spot. On the year, the Minnesota native is averaging 16.4 points, 5.4 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 1.2 steals per game. Furthermore, he is shooting 56.5% from the field and 41% from the three-point line.

Hopefully for Brown, he will have an opportunity to rejuvenate his NBA career. While he looked good in the G League, Brown never showed much promise when he took the court for the Pacers, especially on the offensive side of the ball. Additionally, he was never going to get much more of an opportunity to showcase his worth, especially now that the Pacers are in contention.

The biggest takeaway from Brown’s stint in Long Island is that he has improved a lot as an offensive player, especially as a perimeter shooter. He is much more efficient now and continues to develop. Given that he is on a two-way contract, it is unclear how often Brown will suit up for the Nets this season. Regardless, it is still an intriguing storyline for Pacers fans to follow from here on out.

Hypothetically, if Brown does assume a sizable role in Brooklyn this season, the Pacers will see their old friend just two more times this season–March 20 and 22.

Additionally, while unlikely the Pacers and Nets could also meet up in the playoffs later this year. As it stands, the Pacers own the No. 5 seed in the East, whereas the Nets own the No. 11 seed and are just 1.5 games behind the Chicago Bulls for No. 10 seed. These games were already going to be interesting to watch for Pacers fans anyway. However, adding Brown to the mix adds a bit more intrigue.
