Coventry City’s latest signing looking forward to burying the hatchet with new team-mate

Coventry City news from CoventryLive as Sky Blues new boy Liam Kitching looking forward to making up with Callum O’Hare

Liam Kitching is yet to meet all of his new Coventry City team-mates – and there’s one he’s nervous about coming face-to-face with when the players regroup to prepare for the trip to Hull – Callum O’Hare.

The two squared up when tempers boiled over the last time they came up against each other on the pitch, little over two years ago at Oakwell when Barnsley edged out the Sky Blues 1-0 in a Championship clash that saw Viktor Gyokeres pass up the opportunity to level from the penalty spot.

A picture taken on the day perfectly captured the flare-up with O’Hare clearly aggrieved, having grabbed Kitching’s shirt with two clenched fists and looking him straight in the eye in an aggressive manner. The centre-back, meanwhile, who signed for City for £4.5m on deadline day, is seen holding O’Hare and looking more conciliatory rather than the aggressor.

Asked if he recalls the incident, Kitching broke into a chuckle, saying: “Yeah, that was a couple of years ago and I remember it, but I haven’t met him yet. I saw it on Twitter earlier and I was trying to remember what happened but I can’t recall.”

Given that O’Hare was one of the most fouled forwards in the division when he was fit, the likelihood is that Kitching took him out.

“He’s a tricky little player and everyone tries to hack him down because it’s the only way you can stop him, so that’s probably why he was angry,” he admitted.

“It will be funny when we finally meet but I am sure he’ll be fine. It will be nice to meet him and have a little joke about it.”
