Fitzwater becomes Gary Caldwell’s 11th signing of the summer

Exeter City have signed experienced centre-half Jack Fitzwater. The 25-year-old, who played over 100 games for Livingston in the Scottish Premiership, joins having left the club in the summer.

The Midlands born defender began his career with West Bromwich Albion, progressing through the academy for whom he was named Player of the Year in 2014-15.

 

s first loan spell was for Chesterfield, before he played 16 times for Hednesford Town in the National League North in 2015-16. He also played for Forest Green in League Two, scoring his first EFL goal on New Years Day 2018 against Wycombe.

The 6ft 2in defender moved to Scotland in July 2020 and would become a regular in the Lions’ back line, ending his time at the Tony Macaroni Arena with eight goals.

Speaking to the Press Association after his departure from Livingston, Fitzwater praised the club for ‘making him a better player.’

“I wasn’t really sure what Scottish football would be like but, since coming up here, it’s given me a platform to play, impress and improve. I came up, jumped in head-first and I’ve really enjoyed it”, he said.

Manager Gary Caldwell said: “Jack is someone we had tracked for quite a while and I have had great references from contacts up in Scotland.

 

“He has played a lot of games and fits the profile of player we are looking for, he comes in to an already strong defensive unit and provides competition in that area. He has a really big future and we always look to bring in players who look to develop and improve.

“We are delighted to have him.”

Jack will wear number 24 having penned a two-year deal.
