Clemson basketball moves a step closer to ACC title share with Boston College win
While this game wasn’t all that close, for the most part, Boston College stormed back to make things interesting in the final minutes, even pulling within three before Clemson basketball shut the door, 78-69.
And, sure, I may be a little salty that I went 0-for-3 on my pre-game bold predictions even though I really wasn’t all that far off. I said Chase Hunter would score 20-plus for the first time in a month and he finished with 18, I predicted a 20/10 double-double for Ian Schieffelin and he had 13 and eight rebounds, and I said Clemson would score 90 and it should have if not for a poor offensive second half — 49 first-half points made that feel like a lock.
Regardless, the Tigers figured out a way to hold off the Eagles during their second-half surge and a lot was due to the play of the bigs (Schieffelin and Viktor Lakhin combined for 24 points, 21 rebounds, and 2 blocks) and the duo of Jaeden Zackery and Chase Hunter (they combined for 39 points on 13-of-22 shooting).
Seeing everyone play well at the same time was a good sign and they weathered a second-half storm when it felt like nothing was going right.
The Tigers are now 25-5 on the season and 17-2 in ACC play with a home game against Virginia Tech looming this weekend. A win there and a Duke loss to North Carolina means that the Tigers will win a share of their first conference title in three decades.
Clemson’s NCAA Tournament Seeding Takes Shape as Tigers Push for Deep March Madness Run
As March Madness looms, Clemson’s position in the NCAA Tournament is becoming clearer, with the Tigers firmly in the mix for a top seed. According to the latest bracket projections from ESPN, and CBS, Clemson is consistently positioned as a strong contender, showcasing their potential for a deep run in the tournament. ESPN has Clemson slotted as a 5-seed, facing a tough 12-seed matchup against either Boise State or Nebraska. With the Tigers’ solid performance throughout the season, this matchup would be a critical test for their tournament aspirations. With the balance and depth they’ve shown this season, Clemson will need to keep their momentum going and avoid any slip-ups to avoid a potential upset. CBS Sports also projects Clemson as a 5-seed, but with a slightly different opponent: Liberty, the 12-seed. Liberty is no stranger to NCAA Tournament appearances, making this matchup another potential test for Clemson’s ability to handle tournament pressure and show why they deserve a higher seed. The Tigers have put together a strong season, with impressive wins and an ability to compete with the best in the ACC.
Their recent surge has solidified their place as one of the top teams in the country, and regardless of their seeding, they’ll be a tough opponent for anyone. With a handful of games left before Selection Sunday, Clemson will look to fine-tune their game and lock down their seeding. Whether they end up as a 4, 5, or potentially even higher seed, the Tigers are in prime position to make a run in March Madness, and this is a team that can’t be counted out.
