‘Little bit disappointed’ – Stoke City ace has say on January transfer interest
Stoke City midfielder Wouter Burger has admitted he was a ‘little bit disappointed’ a move to FC Midtjylland didn’t materialise in January.
Stoke City kept hold of the player beyond the deadline earlier this winter. He is staying with SCFC until the end of the season at least.
Burger, 24, has been on the books of the Potters since joining them in 2023. His contract at the Bet365 Stadium expires in 2027.
He has said, as per a report by StokeOnTrentLive: “I am here under contract and have a beautiful life because of the club who is paying me. People who do not do that are absolutely stupid. Look at the life we have, we should be thankful. Of course everything in perspective, I was a little bit disappointed but this is football and we move on.
“I wanted to make sure that I wouldn’t show any reaction on the pitch. Never mind moaning or moping around, I just want to play football. That’s what I like to do. I move forward.”

Stoke City landed Burger to boost their midfield ranks and he gives them more quality in the middle of the park.
He has made 76 appearances for the Potters in all competitions, 35 of which have come in this campaign, and he has scored five goals.
Keeping hold of the former Holland youth international was a boost for the Staffordshire outfit.
Prior to his transfer to England, he spent three years on the books at FC Basel and played 76 games for their first-team, finding the net on five occasions.
He rose up through the academy ranks at Feyenoord and played 16 times for the Eredivisie giants as a youngster.
Burger also had loan spells away from the Rotterdam club at Excelsior and Sparta Rotterdam to gain experience.
His current manager Mark Robins said last month, as per StokeOnTrentLive: “He’s been brilliant and I think there’s
miles more to come from him as well. I think he’s a really good player and if he can get on and off the ball quicker and when other players start to come back and when the level starts to go up again you’ll see a different player again.”

Stoke City lost 3-2 away at Coventry City last time out.
They are back in action on Wednesday night at home to Blackburn Rovers.
