Everton target for the summer announces he’s leaving Premier League club, but there’s a major twist

Everton are set for some huge changes at boardroom level over the coming weeks and months.

Kevin Thelwell is leaving Everton at the end of the season as The Friedkin Group look to mix things up behind the scenes.

The work done by David Moyes will not go unnoticed, but the new Everton owners are looking to keep the progression going on Merseyside.

Alongside the move to Bramley-Moore Dock, the Friedkins are making some significant changes at boardroom level.

Angus Kinnear has agreed to join Everton at the end of the campaign from Leeds United.

However, there are still more additions to be made, with the American owners already shortlisting several potential options.

There is one candidate who is now set to leave his current club in the Premier League, but there is already one major twist emerging.

Everton director of football target set to leave Premier League rivals

With Thelwell set to leave the club over the coming months, Everton hold an interest in Dougie Freedman, among others.

It has officially been confirmed, Freedman is now set to leave Crystal Palace at the end of the term, with a move abroad in the works.

As well as the Toffees, it has been suggested Manchester United and Newcastle United both have the 50-year-old on their radars.

Freedman approved some of Palace’s biggest deals of recent years with players like Marc Guehi and Eberechi Eze.

So it is no real surprise to see other Premier League outfits clamouring for his signature.

However, the highly-rated Palace chief has already decided on his next move.

There are other options on Merseyside, Everton hold an interest in Dan Ashworth, who is currently out of work following his time at Old Trafford.

What club Dougie Freedman is leaving Crystal Palace for

There is a major twist emerging which is not good news for the big Premier League sides who are showing an interest in the 50-year-old.

Following the report on Freedman’s Palace future, journalist Ben Jacobs provided an update suggesting Freedman was heading for Saudi Arabia.

Dougie Freedman is set to join Saudi second-division side Al-Diriyah as sporting director,’ he said.

Considering Freedman has some of England’s biggest clubs after him, it is a real shock to see Freedman departing for the second-tier of Saudi football.

Many may expect to see a move to one of Saudi’s top sides, but to a second-tier side is a real shock.

Five game-changing signings Everton missed out on under Kevin Thelwell

As Kevin Thelwell’s time at Everton is coming to a close, many will look back on his tenure with mixed emotions.

It’s hard to say Thelwell was successful with the Toffees but you can’t half give him some credit for the job that was laid out for the Director of Football.

With their being mixed emotions it seems as though his departure has been taken well as Everton fans have praised Thelwell.

The fact he took on the task in 2022 says a lot about his character, as Everton were in deep water with the Premier League, but all in all, he’s managed the whole situation remarkably.

Thelwell didn’t exactly lack in the scouting department, as the DoF sprung up some exciting names, and these are the five best that would’ve made excellent additions.

Mohammed Kudus

A player David Moyes will certainly know well, being he was the one that signed him for West Ham.

Mohammed Kudus proved to be a great piece of business for the Scotsman in his first season, as Moyes would no doubt love to replicate a signing like the Ghanaian in his second spell with the Toffees.
