Nottingham Forest lose appeal against four-point deduction

Sky Sports make bizarre request that will anger Nottingham Forest fans after points deduction

Nottingham Forest are flying high in the Premier League and seemingly nothing can stop the Reds at the moment.

However, 12 months ago something happened that threatened the football club’s Premier League status.

One year is a long time in the Premier League and on this day in 2024, Forest received news that four points had been deducted for breaching PSR.

Martin Keown didn’t think the sanction was fair and there have since been discussions over altering the PSR criteria going forward.

Nuno Espirito Santo focused on the job in hand, however, kept Forest up and has now taken the team to the cusp of Champions League qualification this season.

Now, some news has come to light that might just annoy Forest and reiterate the concept of the ‘Sky Sports Six’ being an actual agenda pedalled by the media.

Sky Sports make bizarre pundit request over Manchester City charges

Rewind 12 months ago and it was a hot topic of discussion on Sky Sports when Everton were deducted 10 points and Forest four.

Now, however, the Daily Mail claims that pundits, producers and anchors have been warned regarding the discussion of the 115 charges currently hanging over Manchester City.

It’s claimed that when discussing the situation snap judgements shouldn’t be made and people should stick to the facts of the matter only.

A decision looks to be due any time on City’s charges and fans will wait with bated breath to see if there are any points sanctions for the reigning champions.

The likes of Gary Neville, Jamie Carragher and Roy Keane have all been warned that any verdict and punishment will be subject to an appeal.

It’s claimed that this bizarre act of tip-toeing around the subject – and City – is to ensure that fair, accurate and balanced reporting is in full flow.

Forest and Everton weren’t afforded same PSR luxuries

From a Forest perspective, it’s somewhat annoying that this has been allowed to drag on.

A points deduction at this stage would seriously hamper City’s chances of reaching the Champions League, yet the Premier League didn’t seem to care too much when putting the status of Forest and Everton into consideration last year.

City have, of course, denied any wrongdoing but much like Forest and the Toffees, they will now have to wait to see if an independent commission feels the same.

This act from Sky Sports only serves to highlight that they’re extremely concerned about getting any sanctions from City who will undoubtedly have the best sports lawyers fighting their corner.

Thankfully, Forest have managed to keep their powder dry this season and it will be interesting to see if the tone changes when discussing the club next year on Sky Sports, with European football now very likely.

Nottingham Forest enjoyed another fine afternoon in the Premier League on Saturday as Ipswich Town were beaten 4-2 at Portman Road.

This was a potential banana skin for the Reds. Although Kieran McKenna’s team haven’t yet won in 2025, they did put up one hell of a fight against Forest in the FA Cup.
