Tyler Glasnow injury update: Dodgers pitcher suffers strained elbow, 'highly unlikely' to return this season - CBSSports.comPhillies Predicted to Sign Three-Time All-Star, Win Division

The 2025 MLB season is about to begin, but it doesn’t hurt to look at what lies ahead for the upcoming offseason after this campaign. That is precisely what Jim Bowden of The Athletic did in a recent article, making 25 predictions for this new season. Three of those predictions involved the Philadelphia Phillies, setting high expectations for the team. One prediction is that the Phillies will call up Andrew Painter, and not only that-he will secure double-digit wins and a spot in the starting rotation for the first round of the playoffs. Painter has an 8-2 record with a 1.58 ERA and 185 strikeouts in the minors. While he has yet to make his big league debut, he is expected to get the call and make an impact this season. Another prediction is that the Phillies will win the NL East. Last season, they won the division for the first time since 2011, and Bowden believes they will do it again. With much of last year’s roster returning, the Phillies are in a strong position to repeat as division champions. The boldest prediction, and sure to generate the most buzz, is that the Phillies will sign Kyle Tucker from the Chicago Cubs after a stellar season.

Bowden projects a massive 14-year, $604 million contract, making Tucker the Phillies’ right fielder for the next decade. That would likely push Nick Castellanos to left field or a designated hitter role. Tucker, a three-time MLB All-Star, spent his last three seasons with the Houston Astros before being traded to the Cubs. He hit .289 with 23 home runs and 49 RBIs last season. Moreover, Bowden predicts another standout campaign for Tucker before he heads to Philadelphia, where he could be a key piece in a World Series push. The Phillies would benefit from adding another power hitter who gets on base, drives in runs, and provides solid defense. Tucker is an underrated fielder and a consistent performer who plays with intensity every night. Philadelphia would also be an excellent fit for Tucker. He already has a World Series ring and would have the chance to help bring another to the Phillies. Fans would embrace him, and if he delivers, he could cement himself as a franchise legend. Meanwhile, after years of dominance, the Astros appear to be trending downward and could be headed for their worst season since 2016.

Leaving a declining team for a contender could be an enticing move. A lineup featuring Tucker, Bryce Harper, and J.T. Realmuto would be formidable, with championship aspirations well within reach. Tucker would also secure the long-term, high-dollar deal he’s seeking while making Philadelphia his home. These predictions set lofty goals for the Phillies. If Painter emerges as a star, the team captures another division title, and Tucker joins the roster, Phillies fans could be in for an unforgettable season.
