‘Significant’ – Chesterfield aiming to extend lead at top further after win against Wealdstone – reaction
Chesterfield will be doing everything they can to keep their foot to the floor as they opened up a five-point lead at the top of the table.

The Spireites overcame a goal deficit to defeat Wealdstone 3-2 and earn their sixth straight victory.

Coach Danny Webb commented on their advantage at the top, saying: “We have a cushion now and we have to try and make sure we preserve that cushion so it remains in our hands for many weeks to come. It is a significant gap. That didn’t seem to exist the previous year. That basically means that you don’t press the panic button if you do have a few draws later on. It would be fantastic if we could keep that gap and perhaps even widen it, but that can only happen with persistent effort.

We were clinical, but we could have been more clinical, according to Webb. We had the opportunity to score more goals. Overall, I considered it to be a respectable performance. The gaffer has stated that we need to improve on a few areas and that it ought to have been much simpler.

“I believed the high quality and superb finishes carried us through once more. We definitely could have scored four or five goals if we had used a little more skill in the closing third. Although we are upset with the goals we gave up, it is difficult to be too harsh when considering the league standings. It is about winning and figuring out how to win, and we are figuring out how to win by providing high-quality products.
