Aston Villa keen on Adama Traore
nai Emery’s Aston Villa are interested in acquiring the services of the 27-year-old Spanish international Adama Traore.
According to a report by Football Insider, Aston Villa are keen on having Adama Traore in their ranks ahead of next season. The 27-year-old forward is currently a free agent after his contract with Wolverhampton Wanderers ran out and is actively looking for a new club.
Traore came through the ranks of Barcelona’s famous youth academy, La Masia. But, he failed to make it into their first team and ended up leaving the club in the summer of 2015.
The Spanish international joined Aston Villa and was a part of their first team for a season. He managed to feature in a total of just 12 matches and was involved in three goals.
The 27-year-old then joined Middlesbrough for a fee of £18 million. After a successful stint at Middlesbrough, Wolverhampton Wanderers signed him and he has been a part of their team over the past five years apart from the short loan stint where he returned to his childhood club Barcelona.
While he was an important part of the Wolves’ first team, things didn’t go according to plan for the Spanish international last season as he could only rack up around 1800 minutes despite being involved in 40 matches. The 27-year-old was involved in just five goals throughout the season.
His contract was set to expire at the end of the 2022-23 season and despite his disappointing run, Wolves were keen on extending his stay. However, they failed to strike a deal with the forward in time and he is currently a free agent.
While Traore still has an offer on the table from Wolves, it is less than the deal they offered him two years back. As a result, the player is not keen on putting pen to paper.
Meanwhile, Aston Villa have entered the race for his signature. Emery’s team might have already signed Moussa Diaby from Bayer Leverkusen for a club-record fee but they are still keen on further reinforcement in attack.
And, with the 27-year-old available for free, the Spanish manager is pushing for his signatures. He believes his pace and exceptional drilling abilities could help them take the next step. While this has come as an unexpected move from Villa, they are serious about their pursuit and are keen on bringing Traore back to the club.
