Shock Leicester City transfer claim emerges over player with point to prove to Enzo Maresca
Latest Leicester City news from LeicestershireLive as Boubakary Soumare is linked with Italian champions Napoli and Torino
Boubakary Soumare is said to be attracting transfer interest from Italian clubs Napoli and Torino amid uncertainty over his Leicester City future.
L’Equipe report the two Serie A clubs are “among the contenders” to sign midfielder Soumare, who “is studying all his possibilities”.
It is suggested the 24-year-old, who joined the Foxes from Lille in July 2021, could leave the King Power Stadium on loan initially with a club being given an option to then buy him permanently.
Soumare played in 26 league matches last season as City were relegated from the Premier League and could stake a claim for a midfield spot under new manager Enzo Maresca in the Championship in the new season.
But he clearly has a point to prove to Maresca heading into the new campaign.
“What he needs to prove to Maresca is that he’s a project worth working on,” said LeicestershireLive’s Leicester reporter Jordan Blackwell.
“Coaches like players they can improve, and Soumare has attributes that would make him an asset if Maresca can draw them out more consistently. But if he continues to have lapses in concentration, the manager won’t see a City future in him.”
