West Ham ready bid for Bayern Munich ace Leon Goretzka as Declan Rice replacement – Sky Sports
West Ham are readying a bid for Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka, according to Sky Sports Germany.
The Hammers are in the market for reinforcement in the engine room after Declan Rice finally completed his £105million move to Arsenal on Saturday
Several names have been linked to the Hammers and Sky Sports said on Monday (17 July) that Goretzka is a name on West Ham’s shortlist.
Sky Sports wrote: “Is Leon Goretzka fleeing Bayern Munich to the Premier League?
“According to Sky information, West Ham United is preparing an offer for the record champions’ midfielder.
“Goretzka was recently publicly criticised by Thomas Tuchel.”
What a signing
West Ham have been linked with several midfielders during the transfer window.
Southampton’s James Ward-Prowse, Denis Zakaria of Juventus, and Ajax’s Edson Alvarez have been the most prominent names to have been touted with a switch to the London Stadium.
But Goretzka is a new name, and what a name to be linked. Since making the move to Bayern for the 2018-19 campaign, the Germany midfielder has won five Bundesliga titles, the DFB-Pokal twice, and the Champions League.
Losing Rice is obviously a huge blow to the quality in West Ham’s ranks, but in Goretzka they would be signing an international midfielder with a huge winning pedigree.
Bayern may be willing to do business, although it is worth noting that the Bundesliga champions were one of the sides who were linked to Rice before his move to the Gunners, so it is possible that Bayern will first have to source reinforcements before allowing players to leave.
In other West Ham news, Scott McTominay could be available for transfer as Manchester United ace has ‘greater selling power’.
