Fabrizio Romano says 24-year-old has been excluded from his club just weeks after leaving Leeds
Weston McKennie has once again been frozen out at Juventus just weeks after leaving Leeds United.
That is according to Fabrizio Romano, who reports McKennie is among a group of four players including Leonardo Bonucci, Arthur Melo and Denis Zakaria who have been told they are not part of the club’s plans.
Juventus had thought McKennie was off their books permanently in January after agreeing a loan with an obligation-to-buy for in excess of £30 million in January.
However, that clause was reportedly dependent on Leeds remaining in the Premier League, though rumours had began to surface towards the end of his time at Elland Road he would not be staying regardless.
Despite the excitement around his signing, McKennie’s loan spell proved disastrous for both club and player with the 24-year-old becoming a lightning rod for criticism in the final few weeks.
McKennie frozen out by Juventus after failed Leeds loan
McKennie made 20 appearances in total during his time at Leeds but aside from his performance against Nottingham Forest, struggled once his USA compatriot Tyler Adams was ruled out for the rest of the season in March.
Alongside McKennie, both Arthur and Zakaria were also on loan in the Premier League last season but endured equally as difficult seasons.
Arthur played just 13 minutes across all competitions for Liverpool despite having joined in August, while Zakaria was also on the periphery at Chelsea, making just seven Premier League appearances.
McKennie has been linked with a host of clubs in the last few weeks with Borussia Dortmund among those reportedly in talks over a deal.
Following such a dismal time at Leeds, McKennie will need to ensure the next club he chooses is the right one to get his career back on track
