Tottenham to step up Ange Postecoglou pursuit this weekend after Celtic's Scottish Cup Final | The Sun

Revealed: Tottenham clear big hurdle in Van de Ven pursuit – sources

Tottenham have agreed personal terms with Wolfsburg defender Micky van de Ven as they close in on a deal they are confident can be finalised soon, sources have told Football Insider.

However, the Londoners have not agreed a fee with the Bundesliga club following talks over the last week.

Tottenham are willing to pay £25million for the Holland Under-21 international, 22, while Wolfsburg hold out for around £30m.

One major hurdle that has been cleared is that Van de Ven has agreed a five-year deal with Spurs that would keep him at the Premier League club until 2028.

The north London club have been in direct talks with the Bundesliga side over negotiating a price for Van de Ven but the structure of the deal has not been agreed.

The defender, who is a left sided centre-back, has been on the radar of Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou for some time but the club have alternative targets on their list if they cannot get the deal over the line.

They include Edmond Tapsoba of Bayer Leverkusen but he is valued at nearly double Van de Ven’s asking price.

Van de Ven was part of the recent Netherlands U21 squad at the ongoing European Championships that saw the nation draw all three group stage matches and exit the competition.

He played 90 minutes in every group stage clash against Belgium, Portugal, and Georgia, conceding just two goals in the process.

Postecoglu has already moved swiftly to break up the side that underachieved last season.

After confirming the permanent signing of Dejan Kulusevski, goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario came in for £15m from Empoli, James Maddison signed from Leicester for £40m and winger Manor Salomon has joined on a free transfer.
