Coventry City connections ‘so important’ to Jay Dasilva transfer deal

Coventry City transfer news as Jay Dasilva speaks about his move to the Sky Blues ahead of the 2023/24 Championship season

New defender Jay Dasilva says Coventry connections played a big part in his move he looks forward to the 2023/24 campaign.

The Sky Blues fought off plenty of interest to sign the 25-year-old at the end of May, making him their first signing since their Championship final play-off defeat to Luton. The attacking full back, or left wing-back, arrived on a free transfer having rejected a new deal at Aston Gate after 144 appearances as a loan and permanent player there

Coventry boss Mark Robins had wanted the former Chelsea and England Under-21 player in January but finally got his man despite interest elsewhere in the division. Dasilva, who has signed a four-year contract, is reunited with Adi Viveash, Robins’ number two who coached the defender in the Chelsea academy.

The defender told the club : “I have been really impressed with Coventry, especially with how they bounced back after the way their season started last term. It is amazing how they managed to turn it around.

“I thought that we were desperately unlucky in the final but it was a great season for the club. Adi Viveash has played a massive part in this transfer. Every time I have played against Coventry I have chatted to Adi and given him a big hug. He has been so important in this move and I can’t wait to get working with him again.

“It’s also really good to see that both Adi and gaffer have signed new long-term deals with the club. That is fantastic. They are both great guys and they have been so influential in how the club has progressed, and it’s only getting better! I am delighted to be here and I can’t wait to get going.”

As for what supporters can expect from him Dasilva added: “I can play anywhere on the left: at left-back, left-wing-back, and on the left of midfield. I feel comfortable in all of those positions and that is where you will see me playing at my best.”
