Ismail Jakobs to Nottingham Forest transfer latest as Reds make shock decision
Latest Nottingham Forest transfer news
Nottingham Forest feel they have been priced out of a deal to sign Monaco left-back Ismail Jakobs, according to a report.
According to The Athletic, Forest “held talks” over a potential deal in France last week, but they feel the price is “too high” and so will turn to other options in the market.
The 23-year-old was Steve Cooper’s top target for the left-back position this summer, with former loanee Renan Lodi having joined Marseille from Atletico Madrid on a permanent deal.
Jakobs played 32 matches in Ligue 1 last season, and his performances in transfer windows gone by have attracted interest from West Ham and several teams in the German Bundesliga.
At Forest, Ola Aina has arrived to bolster the full-back ranks this summer, though he predominantly plays on the right-hand side and is less comfortable on the left. Omar Richards, meanwhile, has not featured in pre-season after struggling with injury last term.
The only natural left-back in the first team, Harry Toffolo, is facing the possibility of a ban if found guilty of betting charges by the FA. It leaves Forest desperate for reinforcements in the position.
Meanwhile, fellow defender Jonathan Panzo is being “targeted” by Cardiff City and Vitesse Arnhem ahead of a potential exit. Queens Park Rangers are said to be interested in centre-back Steve Cook.
