Tottenham ‘continue to be first option’ for player – Spurs ‘will not wait forever’, ‘verbal agreement’ in place

Barcelona’s Clément Lenglet was on loan at Tottenham Hotspur last season and his form has convinced the Premier League side to bring him back to the club

The two clubs faced each other in a friendly fixture on Tuesday and it also gave them an opportunity to hold talks for the defender.

That’s according to Sport, who state the option to return to Tottenham is ‘still open’ for the 28-year-old.

Spurs have a ‘verbal agreement’ with the Frenchman for a three-year contract but have refused to meet the €15m fee requested by the La Liga side.

That’s because the English club believe they made an effort to meet the player’s salary demand and are now looking for a cheap deal.

Barcelona’s priority was to get rid of the centre-back permanently but the need to save on his salary has seen them no longer rule out a loan deal with a purchase option. This may please Spurs as they ‘continue to be the first option’ for the former Sevilla man.

Sport say Ange Postecoglou’s side, who signed Micky van de Ven on Tuesday, also handle other options for the centre-back position and ‘will not wait forever’ for Lenglet.

Barca want to get rid of Lenglet and if a deal cannot be agreed with Tottenham, another solution has to be found for him.
