Baltimore Orioles Becoming Serious World Series Contenders After Corbin Burnes Trade
The Baltimore Orioles acquired starting pitcher Corbin Burnes in a trade from the Milwaukee Brewers for pitcher DL Hall, infielder Joey Ortiz, and the 34th overall selection in the 2024 MLB Draft, sources told ESPN’s Jeff Passan. With this trade, it is clear Baltimore is serious about winning the World Series in 2024.
They won the American League East in 2024 with a 101-61 record before flaming out in the ALDS in a sweep against the eventual World Series Champions, the Texas Rangers. The Brewers decided to depart from a key piece from their starting rotation and they won the National League Central a season ago with a 92-70 record
They lost both games in the National League Wild Card Round against the eventual National League Champions, the Arizona Diamondbacks. It will be interesting to see how Milwaukee replaces Burnes in the rotation in 2024.
Burnes is 29 years old and entering his contract’s final year. The Orioles needed a number one starting pitcher badly, for a team with an elite offense led by Gunnar Henderson, Adley Rutschman, and Austin Hays.
