Player set for Wolves medical later this week – Club talked into sale with improved bid

FC Nantes centre-back Bastien Meupiyou is set to undergo a medical with Wolverhampton Wanderers at the end of this week.

That’s according to RMC Sport, who say the defender has been booked in for medical checks after an agreement was struck with the French side.

Reports from France earlier today indicated that Wolves had seen a second bid for the defender accepted by the Ligue 1 side after their initial efforts had been turned away.

Those reports made it clear the defender was set to move to Molineux in a €5m deal, which excluded bonuses but a percentage on a future sale.

Nantes had reportedly been reluctant to accept a deal but the player’s refusal to sign a new contract had forced them into a sale and Wolves had gotten their man.

RMC Sport now provide a small update, reporting that Meupiyou is now set for a medical later this week.

They explain that Wolves have put a €5m bid plus a €1m bonus on the table and that was enough to convince their French counterparts into a sale.

He’s now set to undergo a medical at the end of the week before then signing his contract at Molineux and becoming a part of Gary O’Neil’s squad.

Matheus Cunha has a message for Pedro Neto ahead of Wolves vs Chelsea

Wolves are back in Premier League action this weekend and are looking to bounce back from their opening day defeat to Arsenal.

Wolves lost 2-0 to the Gunners, which was a result that many fans would have expected before the game.

But Wolves gave a decent account of themselves at the Emirates, and were not blown away as has happened in recent meetings with Arsenal.

Wolves did have some good spells, and might have come away with something had David Raya not made a fine save from Jorgen Strand Larsen.

Gary O’Neil will hope to bounce back against Chelsea this weekend, and one narrative ahead of this clash is, of course, the swift return to Molineux for Pedro Neto.

One of the best results Wolves had last season was when they beat Chelsea 4-2 at Stamford Bridge, with Matheus Cunha firing a hat-trick.

Wolves had also beaten the Blues 2-1 at Molineux in the reverse fixture on Christmas Eve.

It is difficult to anticipate what kind of Chelsea team will be pitching up at Molineux this time around. It has been a chaotic summer for the west London giants, with many new faces coming in as well as a new manager in Enzo Maresca.

One of the many signings Chelsea made was Pedro Neto of course. The Blues paid a fee that will likely reach £54 million eventually.

Wolves fans adored Neto for five years, but they will be hoping he has a very quiet afternoon on Sunday when he returns.

Cunha has been speaking about his former teammate in the lead up to the game, and has jokingly made one request of the Portuguese.
