Erik ten Hag delivers his verdict on Scott McTominay’s Man Utd future amid interest from Fulham and Tottenham
WHAT HAPPENED?
Last summer, West Ham United made an unsuccessful bid for McTominay. Now, it has been reported that Fulham and Tottenham are eyeing the £40 million ($52m) rated midfielder along with Galatasaray, making him a hot commodity in the transfer market.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
McTominay had an impactful season last term when he started in 27 matches for United and emerged as the joint-third-highest scorer for the club, netting 10 goals. His transition to a more attacking role paid dividends, highlighting his versatility and goal-scoring prowess. Hence, despite the interest from other clubs, Ten Hag is firm on retaining McTominay as the Red Devils aim to better their performances after finishing eighth in the Premier League last season.
WHAT TEN HAG SAID
“We have very good players so there will always be an interest from other clubs,” the manager told reporters.
“When you score 10 goals in a season and also perform very good for Scotland, then there will be an interest. But we want to keep him because he is a very important player for our squad. What he can contribute, as we saw last season once we had our sixes available, he could play in a more advanced role and he is a highly interesting player for our United have been proactive in strengthening the squad during the summer transfer window and have secured the signings of 18-year-old French defender Leny Yoro and Dutch striker Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna. They are also keen on adding another centre back and Dutch defender Matthijs de Ligt has been linked with a potential move to Old Trafford from Bayern Munich. The Red Devils will fly out to the United States for the next phase of their pre-season preparations where they are set to face Arsenal, Real Betis and Liverpool.
