Merino gives Arsenal an advantage they haven't enjoyed since the Invincibles era

Jorge Mendes working to get Wolves and Benfica target out of his current club

Wolves fans hope to see a few new faces arrive between now and Friday’s transfer deadline – and the club may well count on Jorge Mendes to sign one target.

Gary O’Neil called for new recruits following the chastening defeat to Chelsea at the weekend.

Wolves started the summer positively by signing three new players – Rodrigo Gomes, Jorgen Strand Larsen and Pedro Lima.

But there have been no fourth incoming over the last month, and fans have grown concerned.

But there has been a lot of talk over the last few days and there will surely be new players coming in.

And one journalist has reported that a midfield target of Wolves could be on his way out of the club with a little help from Jorge Mendes.

It has been reported by journalist Hector Gomez that agent Jorge Mendes is now working on getting Andre Almeida out of Valencia before the deadline on Friday.

Almeida is a player who has become linked with Wolves again this month.

He apparently sees it as a good idea to leave the Spanish giants. But Wolves will face competition from European giants Benfica if they do decide to make a play for the midfielder.

Gomez adds that any deal for Almeida – who is thought to earn just under £10,000 per week at Valencia – is likely to cost north of £12.6 million.

Almeida move would surely hinge on players leaving

A new midfielder is probably not top of Wolves’ agenda at the moment.

Gary O’Neil has some great options and really, the only reason Wanderers would go for Almeida is if a player was leaving. But a couple could well be on the way out.

Luke Cundle has impressed the manager, but O’Neil has opened the door for him to leave on loan if he desires.

Boubacar Traore is another player who could yet be on the move. He has now been linked with a move to Dutch giants Feyenoord. If one or both of these players leave, perhaps Wolves will act on their interest in Almeida.

Future of Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsdale in doubt as Premier League club pull out of deal

The future of Arsenal star Aaron Ramsdale remains up in the air as Wolverhampton Wanderers have pulled out of talks for the England international.

The Gunners are open to allowing the goalkeeper to leave during the current transfer window after the 26-year-old lost his place as Arsenal’s number one last season to David Raya. The Spaniard completed a permanent move to the Emirates Stadium this summer, which means that Ramsdale is destined for another campaign on the bench.

Knowing this, the Englishman has been seeking a move away from Arsenal and it looked like a transfer to Wolves could be on before Deadline Day.

Jorge Mendes offers Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves to Barcelona

Last week the Premier League club made a loan offer with an option to buy worth around £20m to Arsenal for their goalkeeper and remained in talks with the North London outfit over the weekend. However, the two English top-flight teams could not reach an agreement.

According to the BBC, a deal for Ramsdale is too expensive for Wolves and is considered over by the Midlands clubs. A move to Molineux is unlikely to be resurrected, which leaves Ramsdale in a difficult position with just days remaining in the transfer window.
