Brighton complete paperwork on two new hires – sources

Brighton have confirmed the official appointment of two new directors at the Amex Stadium, sources have told Football Insider.

As per submissions made to Companies House on Thursday (8 August), Anna Jones and Paul Brown have joined the club’s board as non-executive directors.

Jones was appointed as the first female chief executive of The Telegraph Media Group earlier this year and has experience in the consumer, media, technology and entertainment sectors.

Brown, meanwhile, is currently chief executive of Swiss music rights company MusicBird and has spent more than 25 years in various commercial leadership roles with the likes of Sony Music, Spotify, HTC and Disney.

The boardroom reshuffle comes after Football Insider revealed in June long-standing directors Derek Chapman and Marc Sugarman have left the club.

Brighton & Hove Albion's transfer strategy is a resounding success

The duo previously held non-executive director roles at Brighton, where Tony Bloom has been the majority owner and chairman for the past 15 years.

Their departures marked the first boardroom changes for eight years, with Chapman and Sugarman holding their positions on the board since 1999 and 2009.

The appointments of Jones and Brown have taken Brighton’s board back up to 11 members, with owner Bloom, CEO Paul Barber, COO Paul Mullen and finance director Lee Cooper joined by non-executive directors Ray Bloom, Robert Comer, Adam Franks, Peter Godfrey and Michelle Walder.

Brighton have achieved huge success under Tony Bloom

Brighton have achieved enormous success since Bloom acquired Dick Knight’s 75-per-cent stake in 2009.

The 54-year-old has overseen two promotions during that time, with Premier League football being played at the Amex since they reached the top flight in 2017.

The Sussex club qualified for Europe for the first time in their history in 2022-23 before securing an 11th-place finish under Roberto De Zerbi last season.

But after the Italian stepped down at the end of the campaign, 31-year-old Fabian Hurzeler was appointed as the new manager after achieving promotion to the Bundesliga with St Pauli.

Although star midfielder Pascal Gross left the Amex for Borussia Dortmund this summer, Brighton have secured the signings of Yankuba Minteh, Mats Wieffer, Ibrahim Osman, Malick Yalcouye and Amario Cozier-Duberry.

Hurtzeler will take charge of his first competitive game when his side face Everton at Goodison Park on 17 August.
