Crystal Palace ‘make proposal’ – Player is now ‘excited’ about joining Eagles

Crystal Palace have entered the race to sign Corinthians’ Wesley Gassova this summer, according to a report from Brazil.

The 19-year-old graduated from the Brazilian club’s youth system and made his way into their first team in 2022. He’s been a regular this year, managing five goals and four assists from 42 games.

Wesley has been repeatedly linked with a move to the Premier League and Crystal Palace are now added to the list of interested parties from England.

That’s according to UOL, who say the Eagles ‘make a proposal’ to sign the winger in this window.

The London club’s offer consists of €18m plus bonuses linked to the player’s performances.

It’s claimed Wesley is ‘excited’ by the bid made by Oliver Glasner’s side, but Corinthians have so far not responded to them. UOL make no mention of the fee needed to convince the South American club.

As well as Crystal Palace, Nottingham Forest have shown interest in the youngster. Two days ago, Brazilian journalist Bruno Andrade reported the Reds offered €18m plus €3m bonuses, while Corinthians want €20m excluding bonuses.

West Ham were keen earlier this summer but at the time Wesley suddenly had the best form of his career and Corinthians got a little carried away with their asking price.

Glasner hails Crystal Palace trio after Wolves win and ‘really enjoyed’ 18-year-old

With his job already under threat at Crystal Palace, Roy Hodgson certainly did little to boost his popularity amongst an increasingly frustrated fanbase.

In late-October, following a 2-1 home defeat by London rivals Tottenham Hotspur, the veteran manager raised eyebrows aplenty when he appeared to lay the blame not at Palace’s underperforming senior players but a trio of youngsters.

Jes Rak-Sakyi, Naouirou Ahamada and big-money Brazilian Matheus Franca – then aged between 21 and 19 – were all introduced off the bench against Spurs.

And Hodgson attracted plenty of criticism from a bemused Palace support when claiming that the fresh-faced three actually made The Eagles ‘weaker’, per talkSPORT.

Compare those comments with the ones made by Hodgson’s Selhurst Park successor this week. Ok, a pre-season friendly is not a Premier League fixture. The pressure is not the same, and neither is the importance.

But still, the sight of Oliver Glasner giving chances to – and then publicly praising – Crystal Palace’s next generation will warm the cockles of those keen to see the club’s array of homegrown talent make their mark on the first-team stage

Kaden Rodney, Franco Umeh-Chibueze, Roshaun Mathurin, Justin Devenny, Caleb Kporha and Eyimofe Jemide all came off the bench during Crystal Palace’s 3-1 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers in Maryland.

18-year-old forward Asher Agbinone, meanwhile, showed what all the fuss was about as he cut inside following a nice Jordan Ayew pass and curled into the bottom corner with his right foot.
