Milwaukee Brewers hitters had no answer for Pittsburgh Pirates rookie starting pitcher Paul Skenes on Thursday afternoon. The Brewers lost the game to the Pirates 1-0 and Pittsburgh beat Milwaukee two out of three.
Skenes against Milwaukee on Thursday afternoon pitched seven innings, gave up zero hits, and struck out 11 batters. He was untouchable all game long and has been very good during his rookie season. It was a shock that Pirates manager Derek Shelton yanked him after the seventh inning and he was under 100 pitches.
The only explanation as to why he yanked him is so he can pitch at some point in the MLB All-Star Game for the National League on Tuesday night in Arlington, Texas. Otherwise, there was no excuse for pulling him and he should have had the opportunity to pitch all nine innings.
