The 21-year-old Argentina youth international came through the ranks in his native country at Velez Sarsfield before joining Juventus’ academy in 2021. He then progressed to their ‘Next Gen’ side – he made his first team debut against Salernitana in September 2021.

Last season, he was loaned to Serie A – now Serie B – strugglers Frosinone in an attempt to gain first-team experience, he did just that and impressed several suitors across Europe with a respectable return of 11 goals and three assists as the side was relegated from Italy’s premier division.

Leicester City make fan-pleasing signing and want fifth transfer

His elegant but effective style has drawn comparisons to Argentinian counterparts Angel Di Maria and Paulo Dybala. Speaking to the Italian publication TMW in 2023, his agent said: “The comparison was made with Di Maria but Fideo is an already established and exceptional player, he is a World Champion. He and Dybala are very strong players, while Mati is Mati. He’s the second-best player for completed dribbles in the whole of Serie A and he’s only played four games. If he’d played six, maybe he’d be first.

“It’s normal for the whole world to want to compare one player with another also to better understand his qualities, but today it is not right to do so. Matias is a football player, he likes football. When he isn’t playing he doesn’t sleep, he has an immense love for this game.”

Leicester City snubbed as transfer saga nears end

City have completed the signing of winger Abdul Fatawu but are in the market for further attacking options. Soule tends to play in a similar position but Steve Cooper will want depth in wide positions.
