Man Utd have agreed £94.2m terms in fee and wages to sign De Ligt from Bayern Munich in the summer transfer window, as per reports.

The Dutch international had already agreed on a contract that will make him earn £200,000 a week, £52m in the next five years.

However, the Red Devils were stalling on reaching an agreement over the fee and were not prepared to meet the asking price of 50 million euros, £42.2m.

Now, Man Utd have agreed the exact fee with Bayern Munich to finally sign Matthijs de Ligt.

The Old Trafford outfit had a habit of paying over the odds to secure signings and supporters expected that to change under the ownership of Jim Ratcliffe.

In all fairness, taking into consideration the transfer business in this summer transfer window, nothing has changed.

Man Utd paid more than the release clause set by Bologna to sign Joshua Zirkzee from the Italian club. Moreover, the 20-time English champions paid 70 million euros for an unproven youngster in the form of Leny Yoro, who is now out for months.

Finally, when Man Utd’s delaying tactics did not work, they eventually met Bayern’s asking fee of £42.2m to sign De Ligt.

With Yoro out injured, the situation in the central defense demanded another signing and the arrival of the Netherlands international should help.

United must now ensure that the medical and all the formalities are completed in time so the former Ajax man is ready for the Premier League opener next weekend.

Manchester United suffered a tough loss on penalties against Manchester City in the Community Shield.

The Red Devils led during regular time, but Bernardo Silva equalised for City with a dramatic 89th-minute goal.

In the penalty shootout, Andre Onana saved Silva’s spot-kick, briefly giving United the upper hand.

However, missed penalties from Jadon Sancho and Jonny Evans handed Man City the bragging rights for this curtain-raiser.

Erik ten Hag deployed Marcus Rashford and Amad Diallo out wide. Jadon Sancho and Alejandro Garnacho replaced them on the left and right flanks respectively.

Facundo Pellistri also made a cameo, surprisingly slotting in at right-back.

Antony was the lone winger in the matchday squad who didn’t see any action thus indicating that he has fallen down the pecking order.

Next month will mark two years since his hefty £85 million transfer from Ajax to Old Trafford.

The 24-year-old has made 82 appearances for the Red Devils, netting merely 11 goals and providing five assists.
