Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham: What's in new Spurs boss' in-tray as he looks to turn around fortunes of the club? | Football News | Sky Sports

Fabrizio Romano suggests ‘exceptional’ midfielder could leave after claims of Tottenham contact

Tottenham Hotspur finally gave their transfer window a real lift last week when they confirmed the signing of Dominic Solanke.

Prior to the signing of the £65m striker, Ange Postecoglou had only really seen one new face come through the doors with Archie Gray.

Some may count the signings of Timo Werner and Yang Min-hyeok but some will also consider neither as new signings for the start of the new campaign.

But for Tottenham, there are now just over two weeks for the Lilywhites to secure any last pieces of business before the window shuts for the year.

And Tottenham are going to have a busy season ahead of them with Europa League football now to contend with.

Whether the squad is capable of competing on all fronts currently remains to be seen but Spurs are considering their options still this summer.

Despite already offloading 11 players this summer, Tottenham have now received interest in Giovani Lo Celso from Charlotte FC.

Midfielder remains an area which Postecoglou could potentially add to this summer despite the arrival of Gray and Lucas Bergvall.

And Fabrizio Romano has now claimed an eye should be kept on one midfielder who Spurs are believed to have shown an interest in already this summer.

“Keep an eye on him because PSG already wanted Cherki, but then the deal collapsed. But let’s see what PSG will do as they’re now closing a deal for Desire Doue,” said Romano.

“And, important to say, on Rayan Cherki that he was in the list on RB Leipzig, negotiations were ongoing but never done and they signed Antonio Nusa.

“An interesting situation to follow as he has just one year left on his deal at Lyon.”

Tottenham have reportedly shown an interest in Cherki who can play across a range of attacking roles in the front line.

Tottenham eyeing ‘exceptional’ Rayan Cherki this summer

One thing which Postecoglou appreciates in a player is their versatility and that can be seen through Dejan Kulusevski who has played, midfield, out wide and even up top this summer.

And that is also something which Cherki would be able to offer in north London.

Despite having been hailed as ‘exceptional‘, it has to be said that the numbers returned by Cherki may not overly excite the fans at Spurs.

Clearly, this is still a young player but whether Spurs need another prospect in those areas may be up for debate.
