Alan Nixon shares key transfer update in Sheffield Wednesday’s pursuit of Ike Ugbo
Sheffield Wednesday’s pursuit for Ike Ugbo continues as they are given the price-tag for the former Owls loanee.
The Owls have managed to bring in nine new arrivals so far ahead of the 2024/25 Championship season.
Bodies have been added across the pitch, as German boss Danny Rohl looks to bolster his options and build on last season’s miraculous survival in the Championship.
Attacking additions have certainly been identified as important by Rohl as he brought in assured Championship goal scoring ability with the likes of Jamal Lowe, who has recently applied his trade with the likes of Swansea City and Bournemouth.
Charlie McNeill has also been brought in following his release from Manchester United, however Rohl still remains adamant to bring in another striker ahead of the new campaign.
Sheffield Wednesday’s pursuit of Ike Ugbo has taken its time, however the picture becomes clearer surrounding the Canadian as his price-tag is revealed.

Sheffield Wednesday target Ike Ugbo given £4.5million price tag by Troyes
Following his successful loan spell last season, Ugbo has been on Sheffield Wednesday’s radar, with Rohl keen to bring the striker back to S6.
However, per Alan Nixon on Patreon, Troyes have priced Ugbo at ‘around £4.5m’, with Sheffield Wednesday unlikely to ‘go to that level and hope to agree a compromise’.
League One side Birmingham City have also emerged as being keen on bringing in the former Owls striker, however Ugbo is reportedly against ‘dropping into League One’.
The 25-year-old was pivotal in clawing Sheffield Wednesday to safety last season, scoring seven goals in 18 Championship appearances.
Does Sheffield Wednesday target Ike Ugbo warrant a reported £4.5million price-tag
It’s clear that the fee that Sheffield Wednesday are expected to cough up to retain the services of Ugbo ahead of the 2024/25 campaign are in the higher echelons of what they were expecting, something that could easily force the Owls to look elsewhere in their pursuit for a striker.
Ugbo was crucial when called upon following his arrival in the January transfer window last season on loan, and the Owls potentially wouldn’t have been able to stay up without the Canadian international.
However, for such a high price-tag, Sheffield Wednesday could easily look elsewhere for their pursuit for a striker and bring someone in who has proven goal scoring ability at this level on a consistent basis.
If Sheffield Wednesday are able to tempt Troyes in with lowering the figure to below £3million, then they can be satisfied with the deal to bring Ugbo back to Hillsborough, otherwise, other targets should be identified swiftly.
