Coventry City ‘among suitors’ for rising Liverpool star considered for Championship loan move

Coventry City have been linked with interest in loaning young Liverpool midfielder Bobby Clark.
RB Salzburg are claimed to want to buy the 19-year-old, with the Reds wanting £12million for the son of former Newcastle United star Lee Clark but, according to The Athletic, Liverpool are “in no rush” to make a decision on the player’s future and may opt to send him out on loan to further his development amid interest from the Sky Blues, Norwich, Leeds and Sheffield United.
An attack-minded central midfielder, Clark made 13 senior appearances under Jurgen Klopp last season, including five showings in the Premier League, featuring from the bench in the 1-0 League Cup Final win over Chelsea at Wembley and scoring in the 6-1 Europa League victory over Sparta Prague.

Having just returned to fitness after missing the club’s three-game tour of the United States with a minor back injury, head coach Arne Slot wants to get a closer look at the teenager before any decision is taken on his future.
Our sister title The ECHO understands Clark, who is back in training with the Under-21s at the AXA Training Centre back on Merseyside, is open to a loan move and wants to build up his senior experience further.
The Athletic report, meanwhile, says: “Salzburg, who are managed by Klopp’s former assistant Pep Lijnders, are keen to sign Clark, but Liverpool want at least £12m to consider sanctioning a permanent move.
“At this stage, a loan is deemed more likely, with Championship clubs Norwich, Leeds, Sheffield United and Coventry also among his suitors.”
Coventry owner Doug King is understood to prefer permanent signings to loan deals, with City only taking one last season (Luis Binks) under his stewardship, having had five the year before with Jontahan Panzo, Callum Doyle, Luke McNally, Josh Wilson-Esbrand and Brooke Norton-Cuffy. The Sky Blues have since upgraded Binks to a permanent contract.
Mark Robins, meanwhile, already has plenty of attacking options at his disposal, not least summer signing Jack Rudoni who has emerged as a virtually guaranteed starter after an impressive pre-season following his move from Huddersfield Town. Victor Torp, Jamie Allen and Kasey Palmer are other attacking midfield options. A more defence-minded midfielder is more likely to be wanted at this stage.
