AFC Bournemouth Summer Transfer Window 2024: A Detailed Analysis

Chris Rigg says Regis Le Bris does one thing that previous Sunderland managers haven’t

It has been over a month since Chris Rigg signed his first professional contract with Sunderland.

There was concern over his future as he was flooded with interest from the likes of Borussia Dortmund and Manchester United, while reports had claimed he was waiting to see who Sunderland appointed as manager before making his decision.

Rigg was clearly content with Regis Le Bris’ arrival though, having agreed to stay on Wearside only days after the players returned to the Academy of Light for preseason testing.

The 17-year-old is one of a number of players who have spoken highly of the French coach, and he has now admitted that Le Bris does one thing that previous managers have actually ‘missed’.

Rigg left really impressed by Le Bris so far

Speaking to Chronicle Live, Rigg said: “The gaffer is really, really good.

“Especially with the midfielders, he goes into a lot of detail in terms of tactics which I think we missed a bit last year under previous managers. He’s really detailed and knows what we need to do to get into the Premier League.”

Sunderland made it clear that they wanted a head coach that would focus on tactics and further developing the players.

They tried to do that with Michael Beale, but the problem was that he was only a coach and really couldn’t handle the management side of things.

Le Bris’ past record with midfielders is promising

Le Bris seems to be balancing it out nicely and it is clearly benefitting the likes of Rigg and the other youngsters.

The coach has already had great success with building up midfielders during his time at Lorient, completing transforming Enzo Le Fee before he went onto join Rennes, then onto Roma this summer for around £20 million.

Le Bris looks to be exactly what Kyril Louis-Dreyfus had wanted at the club and has so far shown signs of huge promise in preseason.

This weekend’s clash against Cardiff is completely unpredictable, and while there is a lot of excitement around Le Bris’ football, he will still struggle if he doesn’t have a No.9 to play with.

Sunderland have bags of talent in every other area of the pitch and have done well to bring in some experience in various areas of the park, but they are still lacking a striker and fans will get extremely frustrated if that is what prevents them from taking all three points in Wales.
