Wolves strike agreement with European second-tier club over loan for 23-goal striker

Wolverhampton Wanderers have agreed a deal to loan a striker to a European club.

Promising teenage attacker Nathan Fraser is poised to join Belgian second-tier side Zulte Waregem imminently, on a season-long deal.

The 19-year-old, who featured seven times in the Premier League during the second half of last campaign as Wolves suffered an injury crisis, is hopeful of earning regular game time on the nearby continent.

The Athletic reports an agreement has already been struck for Fraser to move to Waregem for the duration of the 2024/25 season. It’s hoped the Irishman can kick on after breaking into the Wolves first-team last term.

Fraser has featured 11 times at a senior level for Wolves, with starts against Coventry City in the FA Cup and Fulham in the Premier League. The striker scored twice in 2023/24, finding the back of the net against Brentford and Blackpool in the FA Cup and Carabao Cup respectively.

Goals came thick and fast for Fraser at youth level, with 21 goals in 63 games to add to his two goals for the first team. Now he’s set for his first regular first-team experience out on loan.

His destination club, Waregem, were relegated from the Belgian Pro League two years ago following a 19th-placed finish. Their first campaign back in the second division ended in heartbreak as they finished fifth, three points outside the automatic promotion spots.

Vincent Euvrard was dismissed as manager at the end of last season, making way for Sven Vandenbroeck, formerly of Lierse Kempenzonen, CR Belouizdad and Wyrdad AC.

Waregem are eager to gain promotion back to the Pro League at the end of this campaign, with Fraser’s presence up top hopefully a helping hand. The first match of the season was a defeat, however, as Waregem were brushed aside 1-0 by Lierse Kempenzonen.

The next clash, potentially Fraser’s debut, is away at KMSK Deinze on Sunday, August 25.
