Packers rookie review: OL Royce Newman

Baltimore Ravens And Green Bay Packers Suddenly At The Center Of Trade Talks

The Baltimore Ravens and Green Bay Packers are both looking to make it back to the playoffs in 2024.  Both teams feel like they have an opportunity to be a contender in their respective conferences.  The Packers are coming off a post-season run that saw them miss the NFC Championship game by three points.  The Ravens are coming off being the #1 seed in the AFC only to fall short in the AFC Championship game.

Could these two teams collaborate before the start of the new season?

According to the NFL Scouting Department at Bleacher Report, the Ravens could very well trade for Royce Newman from the Packers:

The offensive line went from a strength to a concern for the Ravens this offseason. The franchise has a good track record with offensive linemen, but it’s relying on young players such as Andrew Vorhees and Daniel Faalele to step in and be starting guards with limited experience.

Royce Newman has worked himself out of the Green Bay Packers lineup, but he does have 24 starts in three seasons. At the very least he could give the Ravens an experienced backup to go with Ben Cleveland.

It would be surprising to see the Packers move on from any depth along their offensive line, let alone someone who has so much playing experience.  Keeping Jordan Love upright will be one of their top priorities for the foreseeable future and it is very unlikely the Ravens could offer something that would make the Packers better in 2024.

That being said, if the Ravens get desperate for experienced offensive lineman, offering a bit more to protect Lamar Jackson may be a necessary evil.
