Roster Moves: Jaguars Sign QB E.J. Perry
Perry returns to Jacksonville after being signed by the Jaguars as an undrafted free agent following the 2022 NFL Draft. He spent time on the Jaguars’ practice squad in 2022 and 2023 and with the Houston Texans during the 2023 preseason. Most recently in 2024, Perry appeared in four games for the Michigan Panthers of the UFL. He completed 55-of-89 passes for 664 yards and two touchdowns and rushed 23 times for 152 yards and four touchdowns.

The Andover, Mass., native played two seasons at Boston College (2017-18) before transferring to Brown University (2019-21). In 2019, Perry set an Ivy League record for total offense (3,678 yards) and was named First-Team All-Ivy.

- DE (knee) appears to have avoided serious injury and should only miss a few weeks, NFL Network Insider Mike Garafolo reported, per a source. Murphy suffered a non-contact injury during Tuesday’s joint practice with the Colts and was carted off the field.

- WR won’t participate in team drills today with thumb injury on his right hand, head coach Mike McDaniel told reporters Wednesday. McDaniel added that Hill could practice fully today but it may put him at risk of further injury.
How Jerod Mayo Feels About Mac Jones’ Great Start With Jaguars
Mac Jones probably isn’t going to play much — if at all — for the Jaguars in the regular season, but he’s certainly impressing this summer.
Jones, who Jacksonville acquired from New England over the offseason, went a combined 25-for-34 for 308 yards with a pair of touchdowns in the Jaguars’ first two preseason games. The former Patriots quarterback is making a strong case to be Trevor Lawrence’s backup over eighth-year pro C.J. Beathard, who admittedly was “caught off guard” when the Jags traded for the 2021 first-round pick in mid-March.
Jerod Mayo never served as Jones’ head coach, but he was around the Alabama product for all three of the signal-caller’s seasons in Foxboro, Mass. The first-year Patriots coach was asked about Jones’ hot start in Jacksonville on Monday’s episode of WEEI’s “The Greg Hill Show.”
“Look, I wish nothing but the best for Mac,” Mayo said, as transcribed by Boston.com. “He’s having a good preseason and I’m happy for him. I always talk about (how) these are long-term relationships, you guys have heard me say that. I wish him nothing but the best — unless he’s playing the Patriots.”
